Just wanted to throw a big THANK YOU to everyone who attended our T-Minus 10 Prayer night tonight (Sorry about not getting any pics up – 5/16 – I PROMISE)!  What an amazing turnout of ppl as we packed into a family room and spent time getting to know each other, teaching, and had an amazing time of prayer that sparked alot of excitement in my heart about what God is going to do next week…I literally can’t wait.

I absolutely LOVE the ppl God is placing in our lives  through the ‘beginnings’ of Journey Church.  Missy and I are praying for you all!

Once again, Thank you – we’re headed in the right direction (OHHHHH! Now that wierd picture at the top of this blog makes sense).

Susan Boyle shocks the world…I love it!

susanbWell…if you haven’t heard the name Susan Boyle by now, chances are your TV is out, your radio doesn’t work, and you haven’t picked up a newspaper in about 8 days – or your a hermit.

This woman is taking the world by storm with her stunning performance on England’s “Britain’s Got Talent” where she belted out ‘I dreamed a dream’  from Les Misérables.

Since her performance – she has been on every major news show – discussed in every major US newspaper – and has amassed over 150 million hits on YouTube.

It’s the classic display of how we easily ‘judge a book by it’s cover’ and dismiss anyone who doesn’t have a ‘Barbie or Ken’ – like image.  It was amazing to see how the crowd reacted before she began singing and how the crowd reacted immediately after she sang her first note – it literally went from sinnicle laughs to Standing O’s.  She is now one of the most adored people in the world and is pretty much set to win that entire show.

We as American’s need to use this as a wake up call and take this lesson learned to heart.  We have to stop stereotyping success.

God can use anyone!…Wait, let me correct myself:  God wants to use EVERYONE - Regardless of how they look, act, sound, or smell.

How did a secular TV show get that point across better than most of our religous attempts?  I for one, will take the lesson learned and ensure I do my best to not pass judgement on anyone.

The day I said ‘Yes’…

These are just some of the most heart ‘wrenching’ images that project the indescribable terror that struck Columbine High School (located in Littleton, CO – just outside of Denver) exactly 10 years ago.

I felt it extrememly neccesary to blog on this day – because it was the day I said ‘Yes’…to youth ministry.

I was in bible college at the time this horrible massacre took place in Littleton.  I was getting ready to enter my last semester and knew without a doubt that God had called me into ministry, but was still uncertain as to what area of ministry I would serve in…until I came home from school that day and turned on the television, then my life changed forever.

I couldn’t take my eyes off of the television as I watched live footage being broadcast from Denver’s local tv reporters tied into our nation’s largest tv networks showing hundreds of teenagers running for their lives with their trembling hands submissively placed above and behind their heads at the command of local law enforcement with weapons drawn.

I saw extreme fear and in explicable emotion in their eyes and countenances.  I couldn’t move.  Looking back – it was as if destiny had placed me right in front of that television set I was watching that day – showing me for the very first time – my purpose…placing on me an incredibly heavy burden as I wept for hours for the lives that were lost that day and for the state this generation is in.

Through all of that experience – sitting their in my chair, I wiped my eyes and said ‘Yes God…I’ll go and serve this generation’.  I knew from that moment I would serve in youth ministry.  And that I did, just a few months later I received one of the greatest phone calls I could have ever gotten…an opportunity to serve a wonderful church as their youth pastor…and ‘youth pastor’ is just what I did for several years.

I love this generation.  My heart beats for them, and even though I’ve stepped into a different role in church ministry today…I will NEVER lose the focus God placed on my eyes on April 20, 1999 – reach this generation.

Journey Church will have one of the most impacting youth minsitries in the St. Louis area – you have my word…because this generation is worth it.

Columbine – you will not be forgotten.

I will try and get some pics up for the next prayer night.

Thanks!
